Moving or Buying a Holiday Home in France.

If you are thinking of moving to any foreign country it is a decision not to be taken lightly.  Many people go somewhere on holiday, fall in love with the place and without further thought decide to relocate, leaving family and friends behind.  and they do little or no research and wonder why it all goes wrong after a short time. 

Myself, Alan, and our two boys, Ben 7 and Ryan 5, moved here in the summer of 2006, from our experience, moving to Brittany with our two young children was the best thing we have done. We have managed to provide ourselves with a super place to live, at a level we could only have dreamed of back in the UK . We have escaped the rat race, and now live in a delightful location surrounded by wonderful countryside with plenty of clean air, no traffic jams or pollution, where people have time for each other. The pace of life is slower and no one is in a great hurry to meet the next dead line.  French food and wine is the best, and the health care is superb.

We have been welcomed into the community by the local people both French and English.  Our children go to the small local village school, where class sizes are small, they are getting a good education, old fashioned respect is taught for adults, and children are still children not mini adults. The children were made very welcome by staff and pupils, and after only a few months they are speaking fluent French.

We have worked hard in renovating our old farmhouse, we were lucky Alan was a self employed builder in the UK . We did a lot a research via the internet etc. before we decided to settle in Brittany . We have learnt such a lot since we came here, met local people who have helped us, and learned much about the French way of life. It has not all be easy, but we have gained a wealth of knowledge which we will be glad to pass on over a glass of wine.
